Make it stand out
Preparing for your Headshot
Consider how you want to be perceived.
Your eyes, face and expression are the most important features of your headshot - beyond that consider the feeling you intend to get across to the viewer.
If you want to show your Executive side, a traditional suit with a shirt/blouse may be what you are looking for and your posture should speak to your confidence.
Perhaps you are a Medical Doctor, an Accountant or a professional in the Entertainment industry. You may desire to be percieved in your medical white coat, sitting at your workspace, or portraying the strength of your personality, as the case may be.
In your minds-eye, form the image of how you want to be percieved. Even do some research and collect examples from on-line to inspire you.
Dress the part
Consider again how you want to be percieved - if you are an entertainer, do you need to wear a suit and tie, or would a shirt or blouse better exemplify you?
The headshot should also be about you first and foremost - so avoid clothing that draws the attention away from your eyes. Complicated or distracting patterns are generally… a not good idea.
Choose colors. Unless you are looking for a Black & White image (which is a great idea!) choose clothing with color. We can work in a background with complimentary colors to whatever you choose.
Physical readiness
Get a good night’s sleep the night before your headshot.
If best, get a haircut before the shoot, including dyes, highlights, etc. Then shower, using conditioner, and come to your shoot clean. (Do not come directly from a haircut if possible - the small pieces of hair will be on your face, neck and clothing and be very visible.)
If you wear makeup - come in makeup. If you wear glasses normally - wear those. Any of your normal accoutrements that make you you - be yourself.
Mindset
Your eyes are the gateway to your…soul? To your personality? Whatever the gateway, they are your chance to express what you want to convey.
Get your head in the right place. Be prepared to tell me stories. When was a time you were most confident?
We’ll take some time to get to know each other during your photoshoot, and that’s important to build trust.
